Crimson Lions reflect on season '09

The football season for McClellan’s Crimson Lions had its rough spots. However, one of the high points was the win against the J.A. Fair War Eagles (18-16).

Also, the very close games of against Little Rock Hall and Beebe provided excitement and competition for players and fans alike.

The comeback of the Crimson Lions in the third and fourth quarters of the Beebe game  was the result of  determination and high scoring. Although the Lions lost by a score of 46-41, it showed that the Lions have a lot of heart and competitive spirit.

“I’m really proud of the way our team played in that game. They knew we were coming from a long way behind, but they never gave up. That shows a lot of character,” said Coach Chambers.

The game against Hall was also  very close and challenging as well, with a final score of 16 to 14.

Here’s what some of the members of the team had to say about this year and what football means to them.

“I chose to play the game of football because it’s in my family. Whenever there are problems, I say my prayers, talk to the coaches about my problems, and hope to overcome confrontation,"  said Tiarius Maiden.

"One of the highs of playing football is the scholarships. One of the lows about playing football is injuries. During spring and summer drills we learn how to run the ball, hustle play hard, think well, and play smart to cut down on turnovers," said Dominic Williams.

We also spoke to Coach Chambers about the team and season.

Q: What do you do to limit confrontations?

A: We discipline. We have a talk with the guys and let them know what's unacceptable. We are a family and families don’t do that.

Q: What do you do during your spring and summer drills to cut down on turnovers?

A: We teach them how to protect the football. We teach them the three pressure points. As far as quarterback, we teach them who to read in order not to throw interceptions.

[Overall, yes we have had an off season, but we still love and support our guys. They never give up hope and always strive to win. So, kudos to you, the Crimson Lions football team. —Editors. ]
